Since 1985, the Brazilian Program for Electric Energy Conservation (Procel) has promoted energy efficient. Energy efficiency in buildings represents a great potential for saving electricity and reducing emissions thought the country. In this context, the aim of this work is to evaluate a public-school building energy efficiency, according to the RTQ-C Brazilian Regulation and to its new proposed version of 2018. The study case is located at Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in Federal Center of Technological Education of Minas Gerais (CEFET-MG). The lighting system was evaluated by Prescriptive Method and the Building envelope was assessed by Prescriptive and New Method. Additionally, a previously RTQ-C building simulation results was used to analyzed the comfort hours of natural ventilated rooms. Prescriptive Method results indicated that building envelope reached level "A" and its lighting system, level "B". However, both classifications dropped to "C" due to non-fulfillment of some prerequisites. The New Method analyzes resulted in "A" class for building envelope. The numerical equivalent of naturally ventilated rooms reached "E" level and the building energy efficiency, as a whole, achieved "C" level. The discrepancy between envelope results pointed out to Simplified and New Method limitations. As results, the building thermal performance was not suitable for its climate and need some adjustments to optimize its energy consumption and thermal comfort. This study, therefore, presents a practical contribution in identifying a solution to a real problem and academic bias in discussing differences in regulations use, besides serving as basis for similar studies.
