This article aims to present the barriers and perspectives of the design process developed by the technical team of the architecture of the National Fund for the Development of Education - FNDE, an agency linked to the Ministry of Education, in partnership with researchers from the University of Brasilia - UnB. This context follows the searching for compliance of the National Energy Conservation Label for commercial buildings, services, and public use, through design evaluation of school buildings that contemplate the eight Brazilian bioclimatic zones. An example is an initiative to evaluate the performance of an Elementary School Unit standard design, developed in three configurations (five ground-floor classrooms, nine ground-floor classrooms, and nine classrooms on two floors). The method is based on consulting and technical documents that record the entire evaluation process of the standard design, in the search for the Energy Label A, and the highest degree of thermal comfort for school users, through the prescriptive and environmental conditioning analysis by computer simulation trhough DesignBuilder software. The results showed that the design guidelines greatly influence comfort conditions and bring significant improvements to the standard design. The data confirm the relevance of considering studies, evaluations, and technical analysis in the development process of the standard design and indicates alternatives for improvements in school infrastructure. The conclusion is that the standard design needs to be adapted to at least three different versions to attend the climatic specificities of Brazilian bioclimatic zones
