PROPOSTA DE RETROFIT PARA LABORATÓRIO DE ENSINO DE QUÍMICA ORGÂNICA

During building service life some changes may be requested to improve its physical space, operation, and use. In existing public educational buildings, in some cases, financial limitations or considerable delay in their better adequacy needs are noted. This fact can, therefore, cause losses in students' learning, restriction on accessibility and security risk. Thus, post-occupation assessment (POE) plays an important role in space evaluation and also in its user’s perception. The present study aims at evaluating the conditions of use and operation of the CEFET-MG Chemistry Laboratory (XX, Brazil), considering technical requirements and user’s needs. For this purpose, a survey questionnaire was applied, to technicians, teachers and students, to analyze their perception related to the use and operation of the lab. Besides, local data was collected through the building plan analysis and technical visits. As a result, a retrofit proposal was presented. Safety, comfort, organization, accessibility, as well as compliance with current standards were prioritized for this new layout. As a conclusion, it was found that the lab adaptation proved to be feasible to meet the needs pointed out in the users' perception survey. As a contribution, assistance can be provided in identifying future proposals and supporting the institution's decision-making. In addition, the proposed changes may be applied in similar cases as well as serving as a reference about existing education laboratory conditions.
