Abstract

At the beginning of this century sustainability has often been represented by environmental certification systems that are consolidating every day in the construction market. The green seal, as it was popularized in the architectural environment, represents the most important evaluation tool for determining the qualitative classification of sustainability in buildings. How to understand, what certification would be most appropriate to our interests as project designers and also as entrepreneurs? From this research it was possible to classify, through a qualitative methodology, the evident focus of some of the most important Global Environmental Certifications: LEED (USA), BREEAM (England), CASBEE (Japan) and Selo Casa Azul CAIXA (Brazil). The result obtained was able to draw a detailed profile of each of them, evidencing their approaches through their forms and certification processes. This result will allow the professional to have the theoretical basis necessary to choose which seal should be the most appropriate without contradictions as to the pertinence of the sustainable actions applied in the project and in the final work.
