The study evaluates roof thermal insulation use in a single-family building in São Paulo, considering 9 types of roofs and three absorptances. Based on NBR 15575, the thermal performance comparison examined the thermal load, percentage of hours within the temperature range (PHFT), and operative temperature maximum and minimum using simulation with EnergyPlus.Tthe best solutions were low absorptances and the use of insulation. However, too much insulation is not too beneficial. In addition, conventional tiles combined with the thermal insulation can have similar thermal performance to the insulated roof tile, and still, can have better cost-benefit.
