The flat roof of the Central Institute of Sciences (ICC) at the University of Brasília serves as the integrating element of the building's volumetric unit, influenced by the large horizontal planes in modern architecture. This article discusses the potential use of the roof for the installation of new equipment and the impact of these interferences on the elements of the roof and its interfaces, considering different maintenance demands and life service. Documentary research provided access to the original designs. Additionally, drones were used for building inspection and image acquisition. Although some equipment has always been present on the ICC roof, these installations create vulnerabilities at the interfaces between the different construction elements. The research identified regions and critical points that accelerate the degradation of the construction system, as well as those maintenance actions that are incompatible with the conservation and durability of the roof. This study aims to contribute guidelines for the renovation and management of the building’s maintenance. The growing demand for air conditioning and energy generation systems requires appropriate installations, however, without affecting the roof.
