Abstract

Construction companies often maintain short-term relationships with their suppliers, characterized by information asymmetry, power dynamics, commercial focus, and limited integration. Furthermore, relational performance and mutual trust are generally lower compared to other sectors in the manufacturing industry. In light of this, this study aims to identify research gaps that contribute to improving the builder-supplier relationship. To achieve this, a scope review (RE) was conducted based on the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and its extensions for Scope Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), with the assistance of Citespace and Start software. Citation and co-citation analyses were used to map the literature and identify relevant study areas, such as supply chain integration and buyer-supplier relationships. Social capital emerges as a promising field for value creation. The impact of social capital on relational performance, strategies for its development, and empirical studies validating its role in the construction industry are some of the identified gaps.
