Abstract

This study examines the potential integration between Building Information Modeling (BIM) and energy simulation to enhance energy efficiency in buildings. The research focused on BIM-BEM (BEM – Building Energy Model) integration, utilizing gbXML 7.03 and the Systems Analysis feature of Revit 2025. A case study was conducted using a representative prototype of university buildings, modeled in Revit with necessary information for energy simulation. The BIM-BEM conversion was performed by Systems Analysis, followed by analysis of the BEM. Results highlight the accuracy of geometry and material conversion and their properties but indicate limitations in transferring other data and discrepancies in envelope and glazed surface areas. Although Systems Analysis automated the BIM-BEM conversion, it restricted customization of the energy simulation. Nonetheless, the research demonstrates the feasibility of BIM-BEM integration, with potential for improvements in automation and customization of simulations, promoting more sustainable construction practices.
