Abstract

This work presents the main considerations from research on concrete block structural masonry  built with thin joints polymeric compound mortar. The construction of structural masonry with fine joints has been used for some years in Europe, but there are no standards for the design of structural masonry with thin joints polymeric compound mortar. Research was conducted that included the characterization tests of the materials, test to evaluate the compressive, flexural and shear strength of the masonry and the evaluation of constructive aspects. Thus, in this work, the main considerations obtained with the analysis of the results of the research carried out are presented, with the objective of improving the methods used, guiding other research in the area  and guiding specifications for the design and execution of this type of construction system. Recommendations are made regarding the curing time and minimum age for the execution of the coating, filling of the vertical joint, considerations on variations in the physical and mechanical properties of the polymeric compound and tests to evaluate them, use of wedges for laying, resistance relationships between different types of specimens. It is suggested to limit a possible new standard code to the execution of houses and townhouses.
