Abstract

The phenomenon of universalism arises as a consequence of the progressive dissolution of local particularities, which occurs through cultural renunciation in favour of rapid integration into modern civilization. A challenge to architectural practice, this condition has repercussions in the decontextualization of design and the reproduction of techniques that lead to complex socio-environmental impacts. This work aims to counter this scenario by structuring the intersection between local know-how and digital technologies as an alternative that evokes tectonic practices that are aware of their constituent elements, without promoting formal or technological immobilization. To this end, the study conducts a bibliographical review that encourages clarification of the appropriation of digital as a tool for rescuing the critical regionalist character in the production of contemporary national architecture in order to demystify the common resignation with digital technologies. This investigation into the international literature found evidence to suggest that successful results, which run counter to the universalist approach, tend to reinterpret and rearticulate know-how, assuming a haughty and highly complex stance on the digitalization process crossed by the production of the built environment.
