Abstract

For a long time, it has been demonstrated that repetitive construction sites are characterized by discontinuity in the production flow, lack of sequence, and significant variability in resource utilization. Lean production implementations in construction sites have focused on metrics such as constraint removal, Planned Percentage Completion (PPC), and deviations from schedule, without yet delving into more operational measures reflecting production aspects of their operations as illustrated by flow diagrams, flowcharts, and man-machine diagrams. This article reviews recent literature illustrating that, in most cases, there is still discontinuity, lack of sequence, and instability in the production flow. The work brings together evidence from the experience of three construction sites, corroborating the review of the bibliography regarding the difficulties in implementing flow concepts on site.
