Abstract

Understanding the needs and characteristics of users of educational buildings is essential for the development of qualified school projects for the practice of teaching and learning. This analysis is part of an academic master's research. It builds a relationship of aspects of environmental comfort, which need to be explored in the design solutions, aimed at educational buildings specialized in the care of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The survey of these aspects has the purpose of proposing a flexible structure to be explored during the entire process of architectural design, thus tracing paths and strategies of environmental comfort that aim to respond to the particularities existing in the sensory processing of autistic people. Such inquiries are pertinent given the large number of diagnoses of autism performed ¬ each year in Brazil and worldwide. This contemporary demand raises several questions about the way in which educational buildings have been designed. From the analyzes carried out, it appears that the school architecture directly impacts the behavior and academic progression of the autistic. In this way, understanding the needs of this user is essential for the design of school buildings capable of adequately stimulating their senses and boosting their educational development.
