Abstract

Without user participation in the product development process, Social Housing (HS) is subjected to corporate uncontrollability and may generate an impersonal project. In the last few years, the participation and perception of the end user have been considered a key element to meet needs and desires in HS. However, considering the many stakeholders involved in housing projects due to their breadth, there is also a need to understand their values and needs in order to deliver a high value project. In this sense, the concept of Shared Value (SV) focuses on balancing social, environmental and economic needs by aligning the expectations between stakeholders and end users. This paper aims at exploring the applicability of SV in HS. An exploratory study was carried out with users and representatives from a real estate developer. The Stated Preference Techniques was chosen by applying illustrated cards to assess the potential to identify SV among those involved. The study partially confirmed the feasibility of the proposed tool to: (i) enable synergy between participants and further application of SV concept in SH product development, (ii) rethink the value chain role and (iii) to promote local groups.
