Abstract

Green roofs have emerged as a constructive technology capable of providing a series of environmental benefits, usually linked to the sustainability of the built environment. Although there has been an increase in the number of scientific papers on these coverages, papers aimed at the specific study of the drainage layer is still punctual. In this context, in this work, five green roof prototypes with different types of drainage layer were monitored during the winter and summer seasons (2018/2019) in Curitiba - PR, with a total of 19 rain events analyzed, in order to evaluate the influence of the drainage layer in terms of its capacity to retain rain runoff. The drainage materials used in the construction of the green roofs were: (TV1) modular panel, (TV2) without drainage layer, (TV3) expanded clay, (TV4) graduated gravel and (TV5) draining carpet. Through the results, it is observed that each type of draining material presented a unique performance, which can be used to optimize the performance of green roofs for a given region and climate, thus, more research is necessary to understand the adaptation and performance of different systems in different climatic conditions, in addition to the search for more eco-efficient materials with less environmental impact.
