Abstract

Benchmarking is one of the tools used to analyze the relative energy consumption of a building in relation to other similar buildings. In Brazil, one of the difficulties for the development  of benchmarking systems  based on measured data is the unavailability of information since there is no public database regarding the electricity consumption of buildings. This article aims, then, to present part of the database referring to the consumption of electric energy of buildings of two university campuses of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. The methodology used was the collection and organization of data with the consideration of electricity consumption in the period of five years, from 2015 to 2019. The average EUI of 61 buildings with different uses, such as laboratories, university restaurants and academic units, was calculated. The respective EUI were grouped by types of building uses. The average EUI were compared to the EUI of other universities in the world. The results show that the average EUI of the buildings of the studied university are approximately two to ten times lower than those of universities in other countries. It is understood that the perceived discrepancies have a great influence on the type of conditioning of the buildings. It is expected that the present work will contribute to the understanding of measured data from the EUI of a Brazilian public university with complexity of uses in its set of buildings. The results obtained can serve as a reference for future studies on energy consumption in university buildings and contribute to the development and maturation of  energy benchmarking  methods of buildings in the country.
