The replacement of natural land cover by urban occupation contributes to the alteration of the water cycle, which contributes to reinforce climate change and the recurrence of tragic events related mainly to floods and landslides, which can lead to serious disorders and cities socioeconomic damages, whose spaces were not designed to mitigate or resist such effects. In this context, the concept of Water Sensitive Urban Design has been developed seeking to integrate the management of the water cycle to the process of urban development. However, the public authorities do not satisfy the cities in this regard, whereas the citizen can be treated like important agent of urban transformation. The objective of this work was to identify measures of Water Sensitive Urban Design applicable in consolidated urban areas, which do not require a large financial contribution and can be implemented by the citizens themselves, with examples in mechanisms and strategies developed for Adelaide’s city. Thus, starting from a theoretical approach, the contents of the Technical Manual of Water Sensitive Urban Design for the Region of Greater Adelaide, was explored establishing criteria of analysis that allowed to conclude if the measures of Water Sensitive Urban Design attend to the problematization proposed in this paper, whose result is expressed in an analytical framework representative of such relations. Finally, it is considered that a systematization like the one intended is related to environmental awareness and appropriation of public space by the community.
