The envelope of a building acts as a mechanism to control climatic variables, and should be designed to provide comfort and energy efficiency. The roof must ally resistance, durability, water tightness including thermo-physical properties suitable to external climatic conditions. The openings promote natural ventilation as a strategy to obtain thermal comfort. This work analyzed the thermal performance of the top floor of a multifamily building, in the city of Belo Horizonte. The methodology involved: data collection; comparing the ventilation area of the analyzed environment with the one recommended by RTQ-R; 3D modeling of the building in SketchUp, with the Open Studio plug-in; thermal simulations of the model in Energy Plus using the weather file of Belo Horizonte. The simulations considered the analysis of the existing scenario and six more simulations involving interventions through painting, roof replacement and installation of brise-soleil on the window. The results indicated a significant gain in thermal comfort, especially in the hottest months of the year, with 80% comfort hours as per ANSI/ASHRAE 55-2013 guidance.
