Photovoltaic solar energy system reduces the dependence of conventional electric grid and promotes diversification of the Brazilian energy matrix trough a clean source. This study evaluated the economic and technical feasibility of a Network-Connected Photovoltaic System (SFCR)’s implementation in a residential building in Brumadinho, Minas Gerais (Brazil). The following parameters were analyzed: the amount of local radiation, the roof shading, the best orientation, the inclination angle as well as the power generation of the panels and also the user energy demand. In addition, the initial investment was defined for the installation of such a system, and then financial management tools were applied to aid decision making. Although the SFCR generation does not supply all the building demand, the annual economy made the initial investment be paid in less than 5 years. The results point out that the investment in photovoltaic energy generation systems, in spite of the incipient governmental incentive, presents itself as a relevant strategy in mutifamiliar buildings, even in the post-installation phase.
