The aim of this paper is to carry out a case study using the parametric simulation for the optimization of a solar shading device and to compare the obtained results with those of traditionally designed brise-soleil, taking into account the energy consumption reduction targets set forth in LEED v.4. The methodology includes data collection, development of an algorithm for parametric simulations, computer simulations and results analysis. A commercial building project in Belo Horizonte was used as the base case for simulation. The results indicate a reduction in energy consumption when compared to traditionally dimensioned solar shading devices, increasing the achieved score in LEED. The paper describes the algorithm used for the simulations and shows that parametric simulation is a valid process for generating different design options combined with quantifiable results, which can support more informed decisions, especially regarding energy consumption.
