Abstract

Standard NBR 15.575 is undergoing revisions in order to update the evaluation requirements. In the field of lighting performance, a new calculation method and analysis requirements were presented as a way of contributing to environmental responsibility by the civil construction sectors through more consistent procedures. The purpose of the present study was an analysis of the impact of the revision of the calculation method of daylighting in the NBR 15.575-1 in two models of residential buildings configuring the situation of an urban canyon in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The evaluations were carried out according to (a) prescriptive method; (b) computational simulation and (c) computational simulation according to the proposed revision. Using the prescriptive method of NBR 15.575-1, all illuminances were within the minimum values. Using computer simulation, 52% of Buritis model and 62% of ZCBH model met the the minimum established values. According to the new method proposed, there is a further reduction in this percentage, 24% and 39%, respectively. A review of the method is necessary, because environments considered to meet the standard can potentially be darker. However, as it is an review to the current Standard, it must be considered that the low attendance can make the construction of buildings in dense centers unfeasible.
