Abstract

The quantity take-off activity is the most time-consuming phase in the traditional budgeting process. The possibility of automating the quantification of activities using Building Information Modeling (BIM) can result in timesavings and ease of requantification if there is a need to revise the project. This article aims to compare quantities extracted from a BIM model of architecture with quantities obtained by the traditional process. In the case study presented, the architectural design of an enterprise was quantified in two ways. One of them was manual quantification, which involves the interpretation of 2D projects and recording of data collected in spreadsheets. The other form of quantification was performed with BIM modeling of the architectural project. As a result, two sets of quantities referring to the same activities were used in the cost estimate spreadsheet to verify the difference in the total cost of construction of the project.
