The analysis of sound behavior in low frequencies is an important step in investigating potential influences on the evaluation of acoustic conditioning in rooms. Simple measures definition such length, width, and height (floor to ceiling) in rectangular rooms, with appropriate proportions, can contribute to better sound distribution, requiring fewer acoustic treatment interventions and amplification equipment. This article is part of a study on acoustic performance in classrooms at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Florianópolis campus, investigating the influence of design characteristics on acoustic quality in educational environments. The objective of the study is a preliminary assessment, based on calculations and literature fundamentals, analyzing the behavior of normal modes and identifying potential problems that occur at low frequencies. The results are compared with ideal room proportions, considering references such as the Bolt area and Bonello criteria. Only one of the classrooms has acceptable room proportions, and all classrooms indicate disharmony in modal distribution.
