INNOVATIONS IN MULTIFAMILY VERTICAL BUILDINGS: TOW WINNING CASES OF THE MASTER ADEMI/AL AWARD

Architecture magazines and awards adopt innovation as a desirable condition in projects, often without an explanation of what is considered as such, assuming that it is a consolidated and self-sufficient term to explain itself. The Ademi/AL Master Award selects the best buildings in the real estate market based on some criteria, including innovative solutions. The objective of the article was to investigate the use of innovative solutions in vertical buildings that won this Award, from 2007 to 2017, built in the city of Maceió/AL, in Brazil. The methodology consisted of a comparative analysis of the ten awarded buildings, through six innovation analysis criteria, systematized based on the literature, establishing the degrees of innovation achieved in each case. Only two buildings stood out with a high degree of innovation, four with a regular degree and another four with a low degree. It was concluded that the two cases highlighted in the article, although they are among the ones that presented the most innovations among the Award winners, are still not very innovative at the national level. The article enriches the debate on the creative process of multifamily buildings and points out parameters for analyzing innovations in future projects.
