Every construction project starts from the design stage, from which crucial information is obtained to plan and budget the works. Incompatibilities between the projects of the disciplines involved are recurrent and directly interfere with the execution of the work if not resolved in advance. With technological advances, the potential of Building Information Modeling – or construction information modeling (BIM) – can be seen to make compatibility more agile and faster, in addition to, mainly, reducing conflicts between projects through interoperability. Given this context, this work aims to present the project compatibility process using the traditional method and using BIM, presenting the main incompatibilities and difficulties in implementing BIM for compatibility. To this end, a case study was carried out of two adjacent works being carried out simultaneously. The first work was made compatible using the traditional method with overlaying 2D CAD drawings and the second work using BIM. For the latter, a federated model created for three disciplines in Revit 2023 was exported to Navisworks Manage 2023. For theoretical foundation, a simplified systematic mapping of the literature was carried out. Of the main results, making compatible using the traditional method in contrast to applying BIM for the same activity attest to the use of BIM as superior to the traditional method, highlighting the savings of at least 50% of the time spent and a number of conflicts detected 41 times higher. The company's level of BIM maturity was also verified, justified by a cultural problem to be overcome, since only 33% of the projects contracted for the works were originally developed in BIM and to the detriment of the unavailability of skilled labor for hiring.
